Examples

These examples show ordered Regions, not fixed slots or a complete snapshot of the workspace. In each example, substitute application choices and Decoration definitions available on your system.

A development workspace

You might place a terminal, editor, and browser in sequence, with a second Browser Region so the browser can be placed twice:

Launcher
Konsole
Firefox
Visual Studio Code
Firefox

Application Regions match Tasks for the same application identity. Repeating an application creates another opportunity; it does not bind a particular window to a particular Region.

A workspace with permanent entries

If you use several Launchers, you can include repeated Launcher Regions anywhere in the policy:

Firefox
Launcher
Konsole
Launcher
Dolphin

A Launcher Region is for the Launcher category, not a particular launcher. It does not create a Launcher or attach one permanently to that Region. Actual Launchers remain individual workspace items.

A workspace with Decorations

Choose a Decoration definition to add a matching Decoration Region alongside ordinary Tasks:

Konsole
Build status (Decoration definition)
Firefox
Launcher

The Region refers to the selected definition. If applying the layout finds no matching Decoration placement, TaskManSync can create one. Scripted Decorations are limited to one active placement; see Placing Decorations.

A catch-all position

Suppose you want known applications placed first and unmatched application Tasks to have a predictable opportunity:

Firefox
Konsole
Unassigned
Launcher

An eligible Task that matches neither Firefox nor Konsole can use Unassigned. Unassigned does not remember which item used it. Launchers and Widgets never use Unassigned; they participate only when their own category Region is present.

Set a layout Active to guide automatic placement of new items. Choose Arrange Now to apply it to the current workspace. Unmatched items that are outside Regions policy keep their relative order after the arranged items, but may move to a different absolute position. All TaskManSync applets in the same Plasma session continue to show the same shared workspace Order.
