Hiding

Hiding controls which items are visible in TaskManSync. A hidden item remains in the shared workspace and keeps its position; hiding does not close a window, remove a Launcher, delete a Decoration or Widget placement, or change task order. The TaskManSync applet and its Plasma panel remain in place.

Hiding choices are shared across TaskManSync applets in the same Plasma session. You can open the Hiding controls from the TaskManSync applet menu or from the context menu for a Task, Decoration, or hosted Widget.

Category controls

The Hiding menu contains four independent categories:

CategoryItems affected
TasksCurrent running Tasks in the TaskManSync workspace.
DecorationsDecoration placements. A reusable Decoration definition is not itself a workspace item.
LauncherAll Launcher items as one category.
WidgetsHosted Widget placements.

Each category starts shown. Choosing a category hides it if it is shown, or shows it if it is hidden. Everything changes all four category choices together: if all four are hidden it shows all four; otherwise it hides all four. This changes category choices, not individual-item choices, so an item explicitly set to Shown can remain visible while its category is hidden.

Individual items

From a Task, Decoration, or hosted Widget context menu, choose This to hide that one item without changing its category. An explicit individual choice takes precedence over the category: Shown keeps the item visible even when its category is hidden, while Hidden keeps it hidden when the category is shown. With no individual choice, the category decides.

Task choices apply only to that current Task identity. When the Task ends, its choice is gone; a later Task for the same application is a different item. Decoration and Widget choices belong to the individual placement, not the reusable definition or plugin, so separate placements can have separate visibility. These placement choices persist across restarts.

The Launcher context menu provides Launch and Remove, not This. Use the Launcher category command to hide or show all Launchers. If an individual Launcher is hidden, it is listed separately in Hidden when its category is shown.

All but This

All but This temporarily shows only the selected Task, Decoration, or Widget and hides every other item. The selected item remains visible even if its saved choice is Hidden; other items are temporarily hidden even if their saved choice is Shown. No saved category or individual choice is rewritten.

The temporary view ends when you make another Hiding change or remove the selected item. It is not saved or restored when TaskManSync rebuilds its shared state. Your saved visibility choices then determine what is shown.

Restore hidden items

The Hidden menu is available when there are hidden items. It begins with Show All, followed by hidden entries in workspace order. Hidden Tasks and Decoration placements are listed individually. When the Launcher or Widget category is hidden, the menu shows one category entry instead of listing every item in that category. When those categories are shown, individually hidden Launcher or Widget placements can be listed on their own.

Selecting an individual entry sets that item to Shown without changing its category. Selecting the category-level Launcher or Widget entry shows that category. Show All shows every category, changes hidden individual choices to Shown, and clears All but This. It does not alter workspace order.

Persistence and related visibility

Category choices and individual Decoration, Widget, and Launcher choices are saved immediately and shared across TaskManSync applets. Task choices are session-only because a Task represents a current window. A new installation starts with all categories shown and no individual choices.

Hiding changes the visible contents, not the applet, panel, window, or workspace membership. It is separate from a Decoration’s Taskbars choice, which can make that Decoration visible only in selected applet instances; a Decoration hidden that way is not an individually hidden item. Regions control placement, not visibility. For those controls, see Placing Decorations and Regions Settings.
