Static and Scripted Decorations

TaskManSync has two Decoration types:

  • Static stores content that TaskManSync displays without running Lua. Choose Plain Text for literal labels, dividers, and symbols, or TDML when you want formatted text.
  • Scripted runs Lua to produce changing content or respond to clicks. Choose it for displays such as clocks, counters, animations, or a taskbar item that controls a separate Window.

Static versus Scripted describes how a Decoration gets its content. Plain Text versus TDML is a separate presentation choice for Static Decorations; Scripted Decorations publish TDML from Lua. TDML is not a scripting language.

Static definitions can be placed more than once. A Scripted definition allows one active placement at a time; its runtime is scoped to that placement, while optional private storage is keyed separately by the Decoration’s Name (spaces at either end and capitalization are ignored). See placing Decorations for placement behavior and Scripted Decorations for storage.

For the script lifecycle and available capabilities, see Scripted Decorations and the Scripting guide.
